Epic Negociants Alluvial Fans No 32 Barossa Valley Shiraz 2019
Winery Background
Epic Negociants is a modern, innovative Australian wine label that sources small parcels from premium regions to produce outstanding wines. With a coveted 5‑Star rating from James Halliday and recognition as a top winery by Huon Hooke’s Real Review in 2021, the brand delivers polished and pedigree-driven expressions of classic varietals.
Vineyards and Vintage Conditions
This Shiraz is sourced from the distinctive alluvial fan soils of the Barossa Valley flats, which consist of clay, sand and gravel deposited over millennia—areas first named by Colonel Light after the Battle of Barrosa in 1839. The 2019 vintage featured warm days and cool nights, an ideal combination that allowed fruit to ripen fully while retaining freshness and structure.
Winemaking
The production approach emphasises elegance, vibrant fruit and strong structure. Thoughtful fermentation and maturation were employed to balance bold Barossa shiraz character with poise and depth. The result is a refined and structured wine with succulent tannins.
Tasting Notes
-
Appearance Deep ruby red
-
Aromas Rich black plum, blackberry with a touch of chocolate, tobacco and spice
-
Palate Lush and supple with concentrated dark fruit, finely grained tannins and a textured mid palate
-
Finish Persistent and smooth with lingering dark fruit and spice
Accolades and Cellaring
Sam Kim from Wine Orbit awarded this Shiraz an impressive 94 points. With its balance of fruit density and structure, it is drinking beautifully now yet has the ability to cellar gracefully through to 2029.
Food Pairing
This wine complements rich and savoury dishes such as slow roasted lamb, beef short ribs or aged cheddar. It also pairs beautifully with spiced meat dishes and hearty winter stews.
Story Behind the Wine
The Alluvial Fans Shiraz is Epic Negociants’ tribute to the character of Barossa’s unique soils and its historic roots. It brings together regional authenticity, refined winemaking and a deep sense of place, offering a wine that is both expressive and thoughtfully crafted.
