Ashbrook Estate Margaret River Shiraz 2019 - 12 Bottles

Winery Background

Founded in 1975, Ashbrook Estate is one of the pioneering family-owned wineries in Margaret River, producing premium wines exclusively from estate-grown fruit. With a focus on low-intervention winemaking and meticulous viticulture, the estate has built a reputation for crafting elegant, regionally expressive wines of consistent quality.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions

The 2020 vintage in Margaret River was defined by warm, dry conditions and excellent vine health, leading to small berries with intense flavour concentration. The estate’s mature Shiraz vines, planted in the early 1980s, provided fruit with vibrant aromatics, ripe tannins, and depth of character.

Winemaking Process

Hand-harvested grapes were destemmed and fermented in small open fermenters, with gentle plunging to extract colour and tannin. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation and matured for 18 months in a mix of new and seasoned French oak barrels to enhance complexity without overwhelming the fruit. Bottled under screwcap for freshness and longevity.

Tasting Notes

Deep crimson in colour. Aromas of blackberry, plum, and dark cherry layered with black pepper, mocha, and subtle spice. The palate is plush yet refined, offering juicy dark fruits, hints of licorice and cedar, framed by fine tannins and balanced acidity, finishing long and savoury.

Food Pairing

Excellent with slow-cooked lamb shoulder, beef fillet, chargrilled vegetables, or rich mushroom dishes.

Story Behind the Wine

Ashbrook’s Shiraz is an elegant interpretation of the variety in Margaret River’s maritime climate. The 2020 vintage delivers depth, balance, and regional typicity, reflecting the estate’s philosophy of producing wines with both immediate appeal and cellaring potential.
