Te Mata Estate Vineyards Hawke's Bay Merlot Cabernets 2023 - 6 Bottles

Winery Background
Te Mata Estate is New Zealand’s oldest family-owned winery, established in 1896 and renowned for producing benchmark wines of balance, elegance, and character. The Estate Vineyards range is crafted to express classic Hawke’s Bay varietals in a refined, approachable style.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions
The 2023 vintage in Hawke’s Bay delivered excellent ripening conditions for Bordeaux varieties. Warm days and cool nights allowed Merlot and Cabernet grapes to develop ripe black fruit flavours while preserving natural acidity and tannin finesse.

Winemaking Process
Fruit was hand-harvested and fermented in small batches to preserve aromatics and varietal purity. Extended maceration enhanced depth and structure, followed by maturation in a mix of French oak and stainless steel to balance fruit vibrancy with subtle oak complexity.

Tasting Notes
Deep crimson red with violet hues. Aromas of blackberry, plum, and blackcurrant are layered with cedar, spice, and a hint of dried herbs. The palate is smooth and medium-bodied, showing ripe dark fruits, fine tannins, and a long, savoury finish with freshness and balance.
