Ross Hill Pinnacle Orange, NSW Eastern View Chardonnay 2021 - 12 Bottles

Winery Background

Ross Hill Wines is a family‑run estate in Orange, New South Wales, operated by the Robson family. The Pinnacle Series highlights their most expressive vineyard parcels. “Eastern View” Chardonnay is drawn from a prized eastern-facing block within their high-altitude estate—a wine made to reveal the clarity of Orange fruit in refined form.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions

The 2021 vintage is sourced from mature vines planted on basalt soils at approximately 750 m elevation. The season featured cool days with crisp nights. Crop yields were kept low to concentrate flavour, while the slow ripening helped retain natural acidity and bring out varietal detail.

Winemaking Process

Each parcel was hand-harvested, whole-bunch pressed and sent directly to French oak puncheons, hogsheads and barriques. No malolactic fermentation took place. Lees were stirred weekly for nine months to add palate texture without masking freshness. Bottling under screwcap ensured a tightly focused expression.

Tasting Notes

Pale straw in colour with lifted aromas of lemon balm, white peach and subtle nougat. The palate shows stone fruit richness, flinty minerality, a creamy mid-palate and firm acidity. The finish is long and elegant, offering both weight and lift. Critics praised its balance of power and poise.

Food Pairing

Pairs well with roast pork, grilled fish, creamy mushroom risotto or mild cheeses like Brie. It also works with citrus-accented vegetables and light pasta dishes that showcase freshness and texture.

Story Behind the Wine

“Eastern View” is a barrel-selected Chardonnay made to show the signature lift and purity of Orange-grown fruit. The 2021 release is refined, balanced and built for ageing—delivering clarity, length and varietal focus in every glass.
