Ross Hill Family Series Orange, NSW 'Maya' Chardonnay 2025 - 12 Bottles

Ross Hill Family Series Orange, NSW 'Maya' Chardonnay 2025 - 12 Bottles

Winery Background

Ross Hill Wines is a family‑owned estate in the Orange region of New South Wales, now run by the Robson family. The Family Series wines are named after their grandchildren, and the ‘Maya’ Chardonnay was created to reflect varietal purity and cool‑climate character from the high-altitude Orange district.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions

Fruit for the 2024 Maya Chardonnay is sourced from Orange vineyards planted at approximately 750–850 m elevation on basalt soils. The cool climate and extended ripening period help the grapes develop lively citrus and melon fruit while retaining crisp acidity and varietal transparency.

Winemaking Process

Grapes were gently pressed and predominantly fermented in stainless steel, with around 10–18% fermented in older French oak to add texture without overt oak flavour. The wine underwent ageing on lees for softness before bottling under screwcap to preserve brightness.

Tasting Notes

Pale straw in colour, with lifted aromas of green apple, nectarine and pear peel, followed by notes of lemon citrus and melon. The palate is crisp and refined, showing stone fruit and melon richness balanced by zesty acidity and a delicate mineral streak.

Food Pairing

Pairs well with fresh seafood such as prawns and sushi, creamy pasta dishes, soft cheeses and vegetable salads featuring citrus or herbs. Its clean finish also complements light Asian-style dishes or grilled chicken.

Story Behind the Wine

‘Maya’ Chardonnay delivers clarity of fruit and pure expression of the Orange region, the flavours are direct, clean and refreshing, with varietal precision front and centre.
