Winery Background

Established in 2002 by Helmut Konecsny, Rochford Wines is a family-owned winery located in Coldstream, Victoria, within the Yarra Valley. The winery is renowned for producing premium cool-climate wines, with a strong focus on single-vineyard expressions that showcase the unique characteristics of each site. Isabella's Vineyard, named after Helmut's daughter, is one of their standout sites, known for its old vine plantings and exceptional Chardonnay.

Vineyard and Vintage Conditions

The 2019 Isabella's Chardonnay is sourced from Isabella's Vineyard in Coldstream, planted with I10V5 clones. These mature vines contribute to the wine's complexity and depth. The 2019 vintage experienced a cool growing season, allowing for slow ripening and the development of concentrated flavours. The vineyard's well-drained soils and ideal microclimate impart a distinctive minerality to the wine.

Winemaking

The grapes were hand-harvested on 21st February and whole bunch pressed with full juice solids. Fermentation occurred in a mix of French oak barriques and puncheons (30% new). The wine was sulphured without any malolactic conversion or further lees stirring, and aged for 10 months on lees in oak. This method preserves the wine's natural acidity and enhances its structure.

• Aroma: Bright aromas of citrus blossom, blanched almond, and subtle oak, with a maritime essence.

• Palate: Medium-bodied with flavours of lemon curd, white peach, and a touch of spice, balanced by refreshing acidity.
