Nannup Ridge Wines Western Australia Epic Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Winery Overview

Located on the granite ridges of the Blackwood Valley in Western Australia, Nannup Ridge was established in 1998 on a 16-hectare site with exceptional soils and an elevated aspect. The estate is owned and run by the Fitzgerald brothers, and their winemaking is overseen by award-winning contract winemaker Bruce Dukes. The vineyard produces Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, and prides itself on crafting wines that reflect its unique terroir.

Region & Vintage Conditions

The 2021 vintage for this Cabernet Sauvignon originates from Nannup Ridge’s elevated Blackwood Valley vineyards. The vines benefitted from a season of steady warmth followed by cooling nights, enhancing flavour development while preserving natural acidity and grip. The granite-loam soils add concentration and texture to the fruit, giving the wine a resolute backbone and regional identity.

Winemaking Techniques

This Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted to combine varietal power and elegant structure. After harvest, the fruit undergoes careful extraction to preserve aromatics and purity of expression. Maturation follows in selected oak barrels, designed to integrate tannin and flavour without overshadowing the fruit. The finished wine provides a polished experience, offering both near-term approachability and the capacity for short-term cellaring.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Deep ruby colour with garnet hues at the rim.

  • Aroma: Rich blackcurrant and cassis overlaid with subtle cedar, dark bay leaf and a hint of black olive, reflecting classic Cabernet character from the region.

  • Palate: Medium-to-full bodied, the wine delivers ripe dark fruit, blackcurrant and plum, guided by refined tannins and balanced acidity. Textural depth is complemented by gentle spice and underlying oak structure, offering a seamless integration of fruit and frame.

  • Finish: Warm and lingering, with fruit-driven persistence and a soft savoury edge that gently fades.

Key Characteristics

  • A refined Western Australian Cabernet Sauvignon showcasing regional depth and elegance.

  • Ripe dark-fruit profile balanced by smooth texture, structural tannins and integrated oak.

  • From a boutique producer delivering craft quality and distinctive personality.

Food Pairing Recommendations

Pairs superbly with hearty fare such as grilled rib-eye, slow-roasted lamb shoulder, pepper-crusted beef fillet, or a board of mature hard cheeses (aged cheddar, manchego). It’s equally comfortable enjoyed on its own for a relaxed evening in.
