Mountadam High Eden Estate Chardonnay 2024 - 6 Bottles
Winery Background
Founded in 1972 by David Wynn, Mountadam Vineyards is an iconic name in Australian cool-climate winemaking. Sitting high in the Eden Valley at around 550 metres elevation, the estate has long been recognised for producing elegant, terroir-driven Chardonnay that ranks among Australiaās finest. The Estate Range showcases the purity, intensity, and site expression that High Eden is famous for.
Region & Vintage
High Edenās altitude provides cool nights and long, even ripening, giving Chardonnay grapes remarkable natural acidity and flavour intensity. The 2024 vintage was superb, marked by a steady growing season with excellent fruit set and gradual ripening, delivering Chardonnay of exceptional balance, freshness, and depth.
Winemaking
Grapes were hand-harvested and gently pressed. Fermentation took place in a combination of French oak barriques (including a portion new) and stainless steel, ensuring a balance of texture and freshness. Partial malolactic fermentation and extended lees contact built complexity and a refined mouthfeel without compromising the wineās precision.
Tasting Notes
Pale straw with green highlights. Aromas of white peach, lemon zest, and nectarine are layered with subtle notes of hazelnut, flint, and creamy oak. The palate is finely structured, showing stone fruits, citrus, and a delicate mineral edge. Crisp acidity carries through to a long, elegant finish with a touch of savoury oak spice.
Food Pairing
A natural partner to grilled lobster, roast chicken, seared scallops, or creamy mushroom risotto.
Cellaring Potential
Beautifully expressive now but will reward careful cellaring for 8ā10 years, developing richer nutty and toasty complexity over time.
Why It Stands Out
The Mountadam High Eden Estate Chardonnay 2024 epitomizes modern Australian cool-climate Chardonnay ā precise, textural, and age-worthy, showcasing the elegance and pedigree of one of Eden Valleyās great vineyards.
