Moppity Vineyards 'Atrius' New South Wales Pinot Noir 2023 - 12 Bottles
Winery Background
Moppity Vineyards was founded in 2002 by Jason and Alecia Brown and farms elevated vineyards across three coolâclimate zones in Southern New South Wales: Hilltops, Canberra and Tumbarumba. The Atrius range is named after the southern constellation, and represents the blended regional character defined by these three âbright starsâ of viticulture in NSW.
Vineyards and Vintage Conditions
The 2023 vintage of the Pinot Noir sourced fruit from those same elevated, coolâclimate sites to deliver refined flavour and clarity. Fruit was harvested from the selected regions to capture regional influence and balance in the final blend.
Winemaking Process
Grapes were fermented in small batches, handled gently to preserve purity of fruit. Cold soaking and separate fermentation followed by careful barrel integration allowed the development of fragrant aromas and polished texture typical of Pinot Noir from Tumbarumba and surrounding regions.
Tasting Notes
This wine is fragrant and refined with lifted red fruit aromas of cherry strawberry and subtle floral notes alongside gentle earthy undertones. The palate opens with pure red cherry and strawberry fruit flavours, followed by secondary characters of game and cured meats. The texture is silky polished and elegant, with a supple midâpalate and harmonious balance. It finishes clean and calculated with a classical clarity that belies its complexity.
Food Pairing
This Pinot Noir partners beautifully with dishes such as roast duck or chicken, grilled salmon, mushroom risotto or mild cured meats. Its refined red fruit character and silky texture make it ideal with subtly flavoured dishes or lightly spiced vegetarian fare.
Story Behind the Wine
This wine represents Moppityâs philosophy of highâaltitude cool-climate viticulture across three regions with minimal intervention winemaking. As part of the Atrius series named for the southern constellation, the vintage aims to express elegance structure and purity drawn from Canberra Hilltops and Tumbarumba in a single harmonious Pinot Noir.
