Meerea Park Individual Vineyard Hunter Valley 'The Aunts' Shiraz 2022 - 6 Bottles
Winery Background
Meerea Park is a familyârun estate in Pokolbin, Hunter Valley, led by Rhys and Garth Eather. âThe Auntsâ Shiraz is sourced from a single oldâvine vineyard planted in the 1830s by pioneer women of the Eather family, reflecting the propertyâs deep history and enduring viticultural sites.
Vineyards and Vintage Conditions
The grapes come from the lowâyielding oldâvine Homestead block in Pokolbin. The 2022 season returned to more typical Hunter Valley conditions, warm days paired with cooling evenings supporting ripeness while retaining classic acidity and structure.
Winemaking Process
Fruit was handâharvested, openâfermented and then matured for 20 months in French hogsheads, 35âŻ% of which were new oak. Racking was done regularly to clarify the wine before bottling under screwcap, ensuring purity of expression and ageâworthiness.
Tasting Notes
Deep crimson in the glass with aromas of dark plum, black cherry, spice and herbal notes. The palate is mediumâbodied with rich berry flavour, integrated tannins, savoury lift and fine length. The oak presence is poised, balancing fruit without dominatingâŻ.
Food Pairing
Best with lamb or veal dishes, roast beef or aged hard cheeses. The wineâs structure and savoury fruit character also complement spiced or rootâvegetable vegetarian dishes.
Story Behind the Wine
Named in honour of the three aunt figures who laid down the homestead vineyard, âThe Auntsâ Shiraz is a tribute to early vineyard history. The 2022 vintage brings bold character without heaviness, distinguished, siteâtrue and ready to enjoy now or lay down for further development.
