Fowles Wines 'Ladies Who Shoot Their Lunch' Victoria Shiraz 2021 - 6 Bottles

Winery Background

Fowles Wines is a family‑run estate located in the Strathbogie Ranges of Victoria. The “Ladies Who Shoot Their Lunch” series channels the local wild‑food ethos into deeply aromatic, terroir-driven wines that are both rustic and expressive.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions

This 2021 Shiraz comes from high-altitude vineyards, primarily Upton Run in the granite-rich Strathbogie Ranges. The vintage delivered slow, even ripening and the vineyard was managed with low yields and canopy work to enhance flavour and complexity.

Winemaking Process

Fruit was fermented with wild yeasts in small batches. After fermentation, the wine matured in older oak including 150‑year-old English oak casks and stainless steel parcels, creating a layered textural structure. The final blend remained balanced and intense.

Tasting Notes

Deep purple in colour, the nose offers rich aromas of ripe plums, blackberry, violet, white pepper and notes of mocha. The palate is full-bodied and silky, with forest fruit intensity, spice, soft tannins and a long, savoury finish. It balances power and polish elegantly.

Food Pairing

Pairs exceptionally well with grilled lamb, pepper-crusted beef, hearty vegetarian stews or aged hard cheeses. Its savoury fruit and fine tannin structure make it versatile at the table.

Story Behind the Wine

This Shiraz expresses the heart of Fowles’ estate fruit, wild, textural and varietal true. The 2021 vintage was hailed as one of the best yet: expressive, nuanced and built for the long haul. Drinking window spans now through about 2035.
