Fowles Wines is a family-run estate nestled in the granite-laced Strathbogie Ranges of Victoria. Their “Are You Game?” range highlights wines grounded in local provenance and balance—this Chardonnay is a cool-climate expression with character and poise.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions

Fruit for the 2021 Chardonnay came from Upton Run Block 16, harvested in early March during the cool of night to retain delicate varietal aromas. The region’s cooler season and elevation help preserve crisp acidity alongside expressive stone-fruit flavours. 

Winemaking Process

Most of the juice (85%) was fermented wild in stainless steel to maintain varietal clarity. A portion was matured in older oak barrels, introducing textural depth without overt oak influence, a measured, balanced approach. 

Tasting Notes

Light golden straw in hue, the nose offers lifted aromas of white peach, stone fruit, mandarin, lemon, and a subtle flinty oak note. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with bright nectarine, grapefruit, and pear flavours, supported by a soft, creamy texture and elegant oak nuance. 

Food Pairing

Pairs well with sautéed mushrooms, pork belly with girolles and plum sauce, or langoustines with light mint and kaffir lime. It also suits mild pecorino or herb-led vegetarian dishes.
