De Bortoli Riorret The Abbey Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2022 - 6 Bottles

De Bortoli Riorret The Abbey Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2022 - 6 Bottles

Winery Background

De Bortoli, established in 1928, is a family-owned winery celebrated for its Yarra Valley wines. The Riorret range (Terroir spelled backwards) showcases single-vineyard expressions that highlight the individuality and character of specific sites within this renowned cool-climate region.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions

The Abbey vineyard is located in Tarrawarra, Yarra Valley, known for its elevated, cool slopes ideal for Pinot Noir. The 2021 vintage was marked by a mild growing season with regular rainfall and slow ripening, producing fruit with excellent balance, bright acidity and vibrant aromatics.

Winemaking Process

Hand-picked fruit was fermented in small open fermenters, with a portion of whole bunches included for lift and complexity. Gentle plunging was used to extract colour and fine tannins. The wine matured in French oak barrels (some new) for finesse and integration.

Tasting Notes

Bright garnet red. Aromas of red cherry, cranberry, rose petals and subtle spice. The palate is silky and elegant, offering layers of red berries, savoury hints, fine tannins and a long, poised finish with mineral freshness.

Food Pairing

Perfect with roast duck, grilled salmon, mushroom dishes, herb-crusted lamb or soft cheeses. Its delicate structure also suits charcuterie and light game dishes.

Story Behind the Wine

The Riorret "The Abbey" Pinot Noir 2021 embodies the character of its single vineyard site—perfumed, refined and expressive—showcasing the precision and elegance that define Yarra Valley Pinot Noir.
