Basileus Clare Valley Riesling 2024 - 6 Bottles
About Basileus
Basileus, a Greek term meaning King, represents wines crafted from regions recognised as royalty in Australian winemaking. Clare Valley, the undisputed king of Riesling, provides the pristine fruit for this small-batch release, sourced from a single vineyard to capture the variety’s purest expression.
Region & Vintage
The 2024 season in Clare Valley delivered cool nights and warm days, ideal for preserving vibrant acidity and lifting aromatic intensity. Carefully selected parcels were hand-crafted in a small batch facility to showcase the vineyard’s character.
Winemaking
Grapes were harvested when flavour-ripe, crushed and pressed gently. Fermentation was carried out under cool, controlled temperatures to preserve the primary aromatics, citrus, lime, mandarin, with minimal oak or secondary influence. The closure is Stelvin (screw cap) to ensure the wine remains crisp and clean in bottle.
Tasting Notes
-
Appearance: Brilliant pale straw with a subtle green tinge around the edges.
-
Aroma: Aromas of lime juice, red apple, faint honeysuckle and blossoming orange flower.
-
Palate: Crunchy citrus, mandarin and lime fruits underscored by zippy acidity. Dry finish with lively flashes of orange blossom.
Food Pairing
Pairs beautifully with seafood (think oysters, grilled fish), fresh salads, light Asian dishes or simply as an aperitif. Its crisp acidity also works well with mildly spicy or herbaceous fare.
