Basileus Barossa Valley Grenache 2020 - 6 Bottles
About Basileus
Basileus is a Greek term historically used to signify monarchs and rulers, most commonly understood to mean āKingā. This collection celebrates the Barossa Valleyās regal standing as one of Australiaās finest red wine regions. Crafted in a small-batch winery from carefully selected parcels of fruit, Basileus wines embody the richness, elegance, and character that make the Barossa world-renowned.
Vineyards and Vintage Conditions
The 2020 vintage in the Barossa Valley was marked by a warm, dry growing season, resulting in low yields of fruit with remarkable flavour concentration and natural intensity. Grapes for this Grenache were predominantly sourced from a single vineyard in the Stonewell area, complemented by smaller parcels from Bethany in the south and Angaston to the east. These premium sites, with their ancient soils and ideal microclimates, produced fruit of exceptional quality and depth, perfectly suited to Grenacheās aromatic and textural style.
Winemaking
Harvested during the cool morning hours to retain freshness, the fruit was destemmed and fermented in small open fermenters to preserve varietal character. Gentle hand-plunging allowed for controlled extraction of colour and fine tannins. Following fermentation, the wine was matured in seasoned French oak hogsheads for around 10 months. The restrained use of oak allowed the purity of fruit to shine, adding subtle spice and complexity without overwhelming the delicate Grenache profile.
