Angove Single Vineyard Warboys Vineyard McLaren Vale Shiraz 2021 - 6 Bottles

Winery Background

Angove Family Winemakers, established in 1886, is a fifth-generation, family-owned winery renowned for its commitment to organic and sustainable viticulture. The Warboys Vineyard, a cornerstone of their operations, spans just under 11 hectares in McLaren Vale, South Australia. Acquired in 2008, this historic site is named after Dr. Angove’s original 19th-century sourcing location.

Vineyards and Vintage Conditions

The 2021 vintage was marked by a dry growing season with warm conditions, resulting in smaller berries with concentrated flavours. The Warboys Vineyard, with its 50-year-old vines, produced fruit that reflects the site's unique terroir, delivering wines of depth and character.

Winemaking

The Shiraz grapes were hand-picked and chilled to preserve freshness. Fermentation occurred in small open fermenters with regular hand plunging to extract colour and tannins. The wine was aged in older French oak hogsheads and one-year-old French oak puncheons for 16 months, enhancing complexity without overpowering the fruit.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Rich crimson with intense purple hues.

  • Aroma: Highly aromatic with notes of spice, licorice, and plum from the Shiraz, combined with dark forest berries from the Grenache.

  • Palate: Delicious dark red berries, spice, and white pepper, supported by soft, silky tannins.

  • Finish: Great length and depth of flavour, with a lingering, expressive finish.

Food Pairing

This Shiraz is an excellent match for grilled meats, hearty stews, and mature cheeses. Its rich flavours also complement dishes like venison and roast lamb.
