Angove Long Row Riverland Cuvee Brut Sparkling NV - 12 Bottles
Winery Background
Angove Family Winemakers, founded in 1886, is one of South Australiaâs oldest family-owned wine companies. They manage vineyards in Riverland (notably the Nanya Vineyard) and other premium grower blocks, and are known for producing wines that offer great quality at good value. The Long Row range aims to deliver approachable, enjoyable wines with character, and their CuvĂ©e Brut is an entry sparkling that showcases the lively side of Riverland fruit.
Vineyards and Vintage Conditions
The grapes are sourced from the Riverland region, particularly from Angoveâs own Nanya vineyards and selected grower blocks. The soils in these vineyards are mainly red sandy loam over limestone on gently undulating east-west ridges. Night harvesting (or late-night picking) is used to preserve freshness. Being NV (non-vintage), the wine is a blend across vintages to ensure consistency and balance between bright youthful fruit and some complexity from older base wines.
Winemaking
Grapes are harvested late at night to keep them as cool as possible, transported carefully to the winery, then pressed. After cold settling, the juice is racked to cooled fermentation tanks with selected yeasts. Once the base wines are ready, ageing on âleesâ (spent yeast) and blending are used to build texture, then the sparkling wine is bottled after filtering. The process balances crisp citrus freshness with some subtle toasty or creamy notes.
Tasting Notes
-
Appearance: Pale straw with fine, persistent bubbles.
-
Aroma: Crisp lemon and lime with hints of fresh strawberry and subtle toasty oak in the background.
-
Palate: Soft, creamy texture up front, then citrus sherbet and green apple flavours. The finish is refreshing, with a good balance of fruit and acidity.
Food Pairing
This is a versatile sparkling wine. It works beautifully as an aperitif, with seafood (oysters, prawns), light canapĂ©s, or fresh fruit salads. It also pairs nicely with creamy cheeses or desserts that arenât overly sweet.
